It all starts from your mind.Â
Exercising your mind is just as important as exercising your body. When you begin learning how to "flex" your brain, you open up a world of possibilities when faced with limitations that could otherwise bring you down.Â
While training for a 100-mile bike ride, I was hit by a car. And as if that wasn't enough for me to try and process, I spent three months in a wheelchair following that accident.
This is where my journey as a mindfulness expert came into being. I began to study mind-body modalities, like breath techniques and mindfulness, to get my mental wellbeing back on track.Â
I didn't just want to survive.Â
I wanted to thrive.
While 1 in 5 of us will have a mental illness in our lifetime, we all have mental health and we must understand how to care for our mental health daily in order to thrive.
Your Mindfulness Mentor
Using her master’s level education in public health and positive psychology with extensive training in mind-body modalities to teach individuals and groups how to cultivate optimal wellbeing. Her approach is as scientific, research and evidenced based as it is practical, approachable, and realistic for doers with full lives in today’s modern world.
Meriden’s work is to help create communities and workplaces filled with individuals that:
- defer to their internal wisdom instead of living for external validationÂ
- have trained their minds to notice thoughts, without judgment, and decide which ones to attach energy and belief tooÂ
- acknowledge all emotions are part of the human spectrum
- possess the ability to name emotions, acknowledge their temporary nature, not act on them, and not be swept away by themÂ
- acknowledge human difficulty without comparative suffering and take care of themselves with compassionÂ
- make decisions with conscious awareness not on habitual autopilotÂ
- don’t miss the small, beautiful moments because they are present for themÂ
- are able to disconnect from rumination and worse case scenario thinking
- have the ability to remain centered and calm despite chaos that may ensue
